Mapping key players within the Tobacco Sub-Sector in Zambia

Tobacco production has in the recent past shifted from the developed world to the developing countries. The United States of America and Europe registered 18% and 40.4% reduction in area harvested respectively, between 2003 and 2012, while Africa experienced a 66% increase during the same period. Zambia is currently the 16th top producer of tobacco in the World and the 4th in Africa, following closely behind Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Zambia’s tobacco sub-sector has also been growing rapidly, with land devoted to tobacco farming within the agricultural sector increasing by over 350% between 1993 and 2013.
